Valentine's Pizza going Japanese

In Japan, Domino's pizza has launched the "Happy Valentine's Pizza", a heart-shaped special edition that will go down well with the guys. In Japan, it's the ladies that traditionally give gifts to the guys, who then return the favor on White day, which is about a month later.

Papa Johns had a similar promotion in 2009, so this definitely is not a new concept. Domino's Valentine's pizza has pepperoni and mozzarella, and should go well with some beer... er ... wine :-). And Valentine Day roses.

Valentines Day Gala in Cayman Islands

Mmm, what a wonderful destination for a Valentines Day getaway! At the Cayman Heart Fund's annual Red Dress Valentines Gala at the Westin Casuarina, there will be original works by several Cayman artists.

The evening, with all proceeds to benefit the Heart Fund, will include a night of food, wine, music and camaraderie, in addition to the art auction, and ladies will be encouraged to dress in red to match the theme.

The Cayman Heart Fund, a non-profit, non-governmental organization, is dedicated to the reduction of the largest health concern in the Cayman Islands, cardiovascular disease.

Artists who have already committed to a donation of their work for the auction include Bendel Hydes, David Bridgeman, John Broad, John Doak, Chris Mann, CE Whitney, Charles Long, Chris Christian, Gordon Solomon, Maureen Lazarus, Nickola McCoy, Teresa Grimes, Avril Ward, Guy Harvey and Al Ebanks.

“We are extremely grateful to the wonderful artists who have graciously offered their incredibly creative work,” said Ms Suzy Soto, Chairman of the Cayman Heart Fund, “so that it can be auctioned for our vital charity.”

Dragobete - Romania's Valentines Day

In Romania, the special day of love is Dragobete, a kind of equivalent of Valentines Day, but celebrated on February 24th. In some parts of Romania, they consider Dragobete the beginning of spring, and naturally love, health, wellness.

In this day, the unmarried girls take some snow and put in the home, and with the water from it, they can make love potions.

The most used love potion is mostly made by the maidens. It is made with water –melted from the snow-, old roses, holy water from the church(it is called “aghiazma” and it is meant to heal the ones who drink it from any disease) , some sugar or honey. All the ingredients are mixed together, and after that, the maiden must keep the potion on an unopened bible, in order to get the bless of God. After some days, the maidens must drink the potion, and, if they are lucky, they might get married quite soon.

Dragobete is also known to be a day full of gifts. Because it is the Romanian version of Valentine’s Day, the ones in love give each other symbolic presents, in order to make stronger their partner’s feelings.

Involve the kids on Valentines Day

It's a fun occasion for kids as well as adults - involve the kids by having them make Valentines cards, decorating with paper cutouts and balloons, and maybe helping with baking Valentines cookies.

You could even organize a Valentines Day party for the kids and their friends.

Valentines Day Roses Under Threat

Take it from us, you need to get your Valentine's Day roses orders in as soon as possible. According to Miami Herald, freezing temperatures in Columbia have devastated many crops of roses that were destined for the US for Valentines Day.

Felipe Ospina was waiting patiently for his farm's roses to bud and bloom so they would be shipped to the United States just in time for Valentine's Day. But a crippling frost burned almost 40 percent of his crop this week.

And he was lucky.

Columbia supplies around 60% of the roses for Valentines Day, but because many of the greenhouses were hit with low temperatures, in some cases up to 40% of crops have been lost. This means a possibility of both shortages and higher prices this year.
